“The first step to living the life you want is leaving the life you don’t want. Taking the first step forward is always the hardest, but then each step forward gets easier and easier and each step forward gets you closer and closer until eventually what had once been invisible starts to be visible. And what had once felt impossible starts to feel possible.” ~ Karen Salmansohn
Fear is what prevents us from taking the first steps toward what we want – we worry that it’ll be hard, unattainable or that we’ll fail. Fear prevents us from leaving a job where we aren’t happy or a relationship that isn’t healthy. It can be terrifying reaching beyond our comfort zone.
But if we are living a life we don’t want, why stay there? If we desire something better, we need to take the necessary steps forward and not look back. Action overcomes fear, with the first course of action that is probably the most important - making the decision to make the change. After making the decision, it’s amazing how things will fall in to place. And with each change you make in your life, you will change and grow too.
As the quote says, after taking the first hard step, it will become easier and easier. I will say there may be bumps along the way, but attaining a goal after overcoming some rough spots will make you all the wiser and the victory of attaining the goal sweeter. You will be amazed that those final steps do become easier. My mantra when it gets rough – “keep your eye on the prize (goal)”.
Don’t let fear prevent you from getting closer to the life you want. The fear will always be there, so just do it anyway! You will find that unexpected opportunities and people will come into your life. That is how life becomes fuller and richer; having the opportunity to share life experiences, friendship and love with others.
Be willing to go for it, despite your fears. Be willing to be uncomfortable for a little while as you forge the life you want. It’s well worth it. ~ © 2019 T. A. Garcia
