Love and Tolerance
“I don’t mind differences of opinion. I do mind hate.” ~ Unknown
As I scrolled through posts and comments these last couple of weeks, I was surprised and saddened by the hate this presidential race brought out in people; good people, Christian people. I wondered if the hate spewed on here was also seen and experienced at home by their children. Was this hate passed down from their parents? Will their children continue the pattern? We talked as a family about what was going on; what was witnessed on TV and on social media. We shared our thoughts and opinions, and even though they may have differed, we were open to listening. Hate keeps one from an open mind. Hate prevents one from seeing the positive or silver lining in all situations. In many situations, one’s hate is rooted in fear; fearing what is not known or familiar.
We all need to be mindful of what we do and say in front of our children. Are we teaching them love? Are we teaching them tolerance? Or, by our actions, we are continuing a pattern of hate and resistance? The responsibility is ours.
