Emotions. We feel what we feel. And what we feel about something - sadness, happiness, grief, joy, can’t be measured by someone else’s experience or what they are experiencing. The world is ready to have you compare yourself to everyone else, but we are all unique individuals who live our own unique lives.

Yes, some have it worse and some have it better. Someone else’s tough time might give us a different perspective on where we're at in our lives and that maybe we don’t have it as bad as they do, but their situation doesn’t mean we should experience our emotions any differently. What we feel is real to us. It's part of the life experience and by experiencing the emotions we feel, we heal, we grow, we live. Balance is then created in our lives because by experiencing the sad times, it allows us to appreciate the happy times.

Instead, when someone is feeling sad, show compassion and empathize with them; share a hug, a kind word or a smile. Telling them someone has it worse won’t lessen their pain, but your kindness will. By providing comfort to others, the hope is, when we’re feeling sad, someone will take the time to show compassion and share a comfort with us. ~ ©2014 T. A. Garcia
