Free of Guilt, Worry and Regret
“No amount of guilt can change the past and no amount of worry can change the future.” ~ Umar Ibn al-Khattab
Guilt, worry and regret are forms of self-torment. They achieve nothing and do not provide comfort of any kind. They are like the spinning wheels of a car stuck in the mud - going nowhere. The past contains choices and experiences that can never be changed, so why dwell on them? If there was something you did or didn’t do, don’t keep beating yourself up about it. You just need to do differently at the next opportunity. Should you feel the need to look back, then see the lessons and the positive in what transpired and use that knowledge now and in your life going forward.
When you think about the future, imagine all the wonderful things that are in store for you. If you worry about what’s to come, then you’re focusing on the negative. Also, worrying is praying for something you don't want, so why give attention to what you don’t want to happen? It’s better to think positively, consider goals and dreams of what can be accomplished and set your sights on that, all the while giving thanks and appreciation for what is to come. Even if a negative experience comes your way, look at it as an opportunity to perhaps change and grow, or even change your perspective on things.
Strive to live a life without regret. If there is something you want to say to someone, good or bad, then share from your heart. Never feel guilty by words left unsaid. And if you’ve said words that have hurt someone, then humbly ask for their forgiveness without making excuses. Live your life in a way that enables you to go forward in joy and anticipation, not having to keep looking back. You’re not going in that direction anyway. And don't forget to enjoy and be grateful for the blessings you have today, which is easier to do not burdened with guilt, worry or regret, for these are the foundation upon which tomorrow is built. ~ © 2014 T.
